Ablekuma North Re-Run: Oppong Nkrumah Alleges Hidden Agenda Against EC

Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, is accusing unseen forces of working against the Electoral Commission ahead of a planned rerun of parliamentary elections in Ablekuma North.

Speaking to reporters, the MP expressed shock over the EC’s sudden U-turn on the matter.

He said weeks ago, the Commission assured Parliament that there was no need for a rerun—only a request for security during the collation process.

“We even petitioned the police to provide protection for the collation, and the EC seemed satisfied,” Oppong Nkrumah recalled. “Now, barely two weeks later, they’re calling for a rerun. It’s clear something—or someone—is manipulating the process.”

He also questioned the role of the new IGP, appointed by the NDC, asking why the police failed to secure the collation process but can now offer protection for a rerun.

The Electoral Commission has scheduled the rerun for July 11, 2025, in 19 polling stations, after months of dispute between NPP’s Nana Akua Afriyie and NDC’s Ewurabena Aubynn over the outcome of the December 7, 2024 parliamentary election.
