Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Ernest Kumi, Member of Parliament for Akwatia, describing him as a deeply loyal friend and a dedicated public servant.

Speaking during a condolence visit to Kumi’s family home on Tuesday, Dr. Bawumia struggled to contain his grief, recounting the shock and sadness that gripped him and other colleagues upon learning of the MP’s sudden death the previous day.

“We got the news while we were at the NEC meeting yesterday. Since then, we have not all been able to recover from the shock. Ernest was my friend. Nobody in Parliament supported me more than he did.”

Bawumia revealed that he had spent time with the late MP just days earlier and had seen no signs of illness.

“Just this past Friday, I was with him at my house and we had a good chat. Nothing showed he was sick. I still can’t believe he’s gone”.

The bond between the two men, built over years of political collaboration and personal friendship, was evident in the former Vice President’s emotional words.

Dr. Bawumia assured the bereaved family of his full support through the difficult days ahead.

“This is not just your loss as a family; it is our collective loss. Whatever you decide regarding the funeral arrangements, please count me in,” he said solemnly.

Kumi, who was in his first term as an NPP MP, had quickly built a reputation for advocacy and loyalty.

His death has sent shockwaves through Parliament and sparked an outpouring of tributes from across the political spectrum.
