The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is calling on the international and diplomatic community to step in, as tensions mount over the Electoral Commission’s decision to rerun parliamentary elections in the Ablekuma North constituency.

The EC has fixed July 11 for a rerun in 19 polling stations, citing issues with unverified pink sheets. But the NPP insists the move is unlawful and has vowed to boycott the exercise.

Speaking to the media, the party’s Deputy General Secretary, Haruna Mohammed, urged the international community and the media to condemn what he called an act of injustice and disregard for court orders.

He stressed that the election had already been conducted and legitimately won, warning against any attempts to overturn the result through intimidation.

Meanwhile, NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong reinforced the party’s position at a separate press briefing. He accused the Electoral Commission of trying to subvert the will of the people and declared the NPP’s total rejection of the planned rerun.

Mr. Kodua insisted that the party’s candidate, Nana Akua Afriyie, won the parliamentary seat with a margin of 414 votes and demanded that the EC respect the court’s directive by completing the collation process and declaring her winner.

The party’s National Executive Committee has also thrown its weight behind the decision not to participate in the rerun, setting the stage for a major political standoff.
