The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced a significant enhancement to Ghana’s natural gas supply, following a new agreement with Italian energy giant ENI.

Beginning Sunday, July 13, ENI will increase its output by 30 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd), raising Ghana’s total daily supply to 270 MMscfd.

Describing the move as a “strategic intervention”, the Ministry said the increase is aimed at reinforcing the country’s energy infrastructure and supporting long-term energy resilience under the government’s 24-hour economy policy.

To facilitate the upgrade, ENI will temporarily suspend its gas export operations, prioritising domestic supply.

The Ministry acknowledged that this may affect gas availability for power generation in the short term but assured the public that comprehensive mitigation measures are in place.

“This temporary measure is essential for optimising the supply chain and ensuring the successful implementation of the supply increase,” the Ministry stated.

These measures include:

* Enhanced monitoring of power production systems;
* Real-time coordination with generation plants;
* Contingency planning to minimise electricity supply interruptions.
