The Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Samuel Nartey George, has reaffirmed his firm opposition to LGBTQ+ activities and called on Parliament to fast-track the passage of the resubmitted anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

Sharing a thought on the raging controversy over Ghana’s alleged abstention from a vote on LGBTQI+ at the UN in a Facebook post, the Ningo Prampram legislator declared his unwavering position on the matter after Ghana abstained from voting on the controversial draft resolution L.24 at the United Nations.

He said he fully supported the official statement Ghana made on the resolution but could not understand why the country abstained from the final vote. He described the abstention as a contradiction to Ghana’s stated position and a breach of his personal conscience.

Mr. George disclosed that he and other Members of Parliament had resubmitted the same anti-LGBTQ+ bill that Parliament passed last year but which former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo refused to assent to.

He urged Parliament to expedite the approval process so that the bill can be presented to President John Dramani Mahama for signing.

Mr. Nartey concluded by emphasizing the need to protect Ghanaian cultural values and the innocence of children, saying truth, conscience, and principles must guide the nation’s actions.
