President John Dramani Mahama, has announced the country’s intention to explore a strategic aviation partnership with Portugal, as part of efforts to reestablish a national airline and stimulate growth across the aviation and investment sectors.

The proposal was shared on Thursday, July 10, during a formal ceremony at the Jubilee House, where President Mahama received letters of credence from five newly accredited ambassadors to Ghana.

Among them was Maria Da Conceição de Sousa Pilar, Portugal’s new envoy, alongside representatives from Seychelles, Venezuela, Chad, and Gabon.

Speaking during his interaction with the Portuguese ambassador, President Mahama praised the ongoing commercial flights between Lisbon and Accra, operated by Portugal’s national airline.

“Ghana itself is trying to reestablish its national airline. At the appropriate time, we will be looking for partners, and if the Portuguese national airline is interested, we could do a partnership”.

The President emphasized the broader goal of expanding Ghana’s economic ties and attracting foreign investment.

“We want to expand economic relations, and we believe that we can attract more investors to come and invest in Ghana. Ghana has a lot of natural resources, with a market size of almost 35 million people”.
