President Mahama has ordered the Ghana Shippers Authority, Ministry of Transport and Finance, to as a matter of urgency, streamline activities at the various ports to curb challenges facing freight-forwarders. Speaking during a meeting with their leadership at the Jubilee House, here, in Accra, President Mahama called for measures to end importers interest in clearing their goods through the Lomè port in Togo.

The leadership of the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF) called on President Mahama to discuss issues affecting their businesses.

Issues of charges, systemic challenges, delays in clearing goods among others were topical in the discussions.

President Mahama questioned why certain port charges are unfavorable, driving importers and exporters to opt for Lomé ports in neighboring Togo.

He tasked the various government urgencies to as a matter of urgency, streamline activities of the ports to give confidence and ease the burdens on these freight-forwarders.

President Mahama also highlighted the need to add more agencies at the port to the 24-hour economy policy to have a comprehensive implementation.

He promised to get his administration fix revenue collection system issues, providing relief to businesses.
