President John Dramani Mahama has announced that funds are readily available to pay all contractors interested in working on the upcoming Big Push road project in the Western Region.

The President, speaking during his Thank You Tour in the Western North Region, acknowledged the deteriorating roads as critical routes for transporting foodstuffs, timber, and people across various parts of the country. “Nananom, I have heard your concerns about the roads connecting our farming communities and our markets. These roads are vital arteries for moving cocoa, timber, food products, and people across our country. These roads are not a luxury — they are a necessity,” the President remarked.

The President indicated that he is in talks with the Ministry of Finance, which has confirmed the allocation of sufficient funds for these road projects, placed under the $10 billion infrastructural development program.

He further assured all certified contractors employed for the project of payment within two weeks after work begins. “The Honorable Finance Minister has assured that the resources are available to reconstruct these roads, and he has said that for any contractor who works on the Big Push project, if you present your certificate, within two weeks you will be paid. So money is not going to be a problem.”

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has been directed to prioritize the following roads in the Western North Region and ensure they are completed on schedule. “Roads such as Enchielubu, Dadieso–Akontombra, Ajuafua–Osei Kojokrom, Sefwi Bekwai–Asankraboa, and deteriorated feeder roads across Sui, Bosomkwanta, Bonzan, Esam, and Bia West are all slated for reconstruction.”
