Cancellation of fuel allowance; let them prove it with payslip – Kwamena Duncan challenges gov't

Former Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan, has thrown a challenge to the John Mahama administration to provide evidence that government officials receive fuel allowances through their payslips.

His comments come in response to an announcement by President John Dramani Mahama, through the Minister for Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, that fuel allowances for all government appointees had been scrapped as part of efforts to cut government spending.

Speaking in an interview monitored by Happyghana.com, Mr. Duncan refuted the claim, insisting that no such allowances are reflected in the monthly salaries of ministers.

“There is no minister whose monthly salary includes a fuel allowance. If you go to any of the ministries, you will not find fuel allowance indicated on a minister’s payslip. Let them come forward and show us, this is Minister A or B, and this is their payslip with fuel allowance clearly stated,” he asserted.

He explained that fuel provisions are typically captured in the operational budgets of ministries, not as direct salary components for individual appointees.

Mr. Duncan further argued that the supposed cancellation of fuel allowances is misleading, rhetorically asking, “What fuel allowance is he canceling when it doesn’t even exist?”

He has therefore dared any government appointee to publicly present their payslip and point out where the fuel allowance appears.
