Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, retraced his late mother Princess Diana’s iconic footsteps by walking through an active landmine field in Cuito Cuanavale, Angola—an effort to raise awareness for mine-clearance efforts led by The HALO Trust.
Wearing a flak jacket and protective gear similar to his mother’s 1997 visit, Harry undertook a symbolic walk through the minefield, echoing Diana’s powerful humanitarian legacy, which helped mobilize global support for banning landmines.
During the visit, now as patron of The HALO Trust, Prince Harry engaged directly with communities still impacted by Angola’s long civil war. He emphasized the continuing risk to children, teaching life-saving Portuguese phrases like “stop,” “go back,” and “tell your elders” during a children’s safety outreach session .
Harry also held talks with Angolan President João Lourenço to formalize a renewed three‑year cooperation agreement with The HALO Trust, strengthening Angola’s commitment to achieving a mine-free future this year.
