The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed all public pre-tertiary schools to reinstate Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), following a presidential directive by President John Dramani Mahama.

This move comes after President John Mahama, during multiple engagements—including a June 2025 meeting with the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT)—described the sidelining of PTAs as unacceptable.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, July 17, 2025, GES instructed heads of public senior high, technical, and STEM schools to take immediate steps to operationalize the directive. The aim is to enhance parental involvement and strengthen collaboration between schools and their communities.

Commenting on the development during an interview on the Happy Morning Show, educationist Dr. Daniel Osabutey welcomed the move. He noted that PTAs provide a vital platform for parents and teachers to share ideas that can improve academic performance and help shape students’ development.

Dr. Osabutey also dismissed claims of extortion and financial misconduct linked to PTAs as unfounded, urging stakeholders to focus on the benefits of increased parent-school engagements.
