The Senior Education Advisor for at Africa Education Watch (Eduwatch), Dr. Peter Attafuah, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for directing the reinstatement of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in all pre-tertiary schools across the country.

His remarks follow a press release issued by the Ghana Education Service (GES) on Thursday, July 17. The statement, signed by GES Head of Public Relations Daniel Fenyi, announced the nationwide reinstatement of PTAs in line with a directive from the President.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Antwi Boasiako on Happy Kaseɛbɔ on Happy 98.9 FM, Dr. Attafuah described the move as a step in the right direction, highlighting the vital role of collaboration between parents and teachers in ensuring student success and well-being.

“Parents entrust their children to teachers while they go about their daily activities, relying on the trust they have in the teaching profession. For this reason, it is important that parents and teachers work together to promote the welfare of the children, especially since parents are not directly involved during school hours,” he explained.

Dr. Attafuah emphasized the importance of PTAs in the day-to-day functioning of schools, noting their contributions to infrastructure and essential services.

“Many schools have seen improved infrastructure, classroom blocks and other facilities, thanks to the support and initiative of PTAs. Their role in school development cannot be underestimated,” he added.

He urged stakeholders to embrace the renewed collaboration between parents and educators, as it ultimately serves the best interests of students.
