The Member of Parliament for Suame, John Darko, has announced plans to introduce a Private Members Bill that would mandate government to establish a dedicated fund for training and equipping auto mechanics across the country.

Speaking in Parliament during a statement on the impact of Ghana’s green energy transition on auto mechanics in the Suame Industrial Area (popularly known as Suame Magazine), the MP stressed the urgent need to prepare local artisans for the changing energy landscape.

Mr. Darko referenced the recent creation of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition through the Civil Service (Ministries) Instrument 2025, describing it as a clear indication of President John Mahama’s commitment to shifting Ghana’s energy dependency from fossil fuels to sustainable, green sources.

“Green energy, derived from solar, wind, hydro, biomass, and geothermal sources, has minimal environmental impact. Transitioning from fossil fuels is not just environmentally necessary—it’s economically strategic,” the MP stated.

He explained that the rise of electric vehicles (EVs) globally is a major outcome of this shift, and Ghana must ensure its auto industry is not left behind.

The proposed fund would support re-skilling and upskilling of local mechanics with modern tools, training, and technology to remain competitive in the evolving green economy.

Members of Parliament from both the Majority and Minority sides welcomed the statement and expressed support for the green transition, describing it as timely and essential for Ghana’s sustainable development.
