Subjects of King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II were filled with joy upon hearing the final verdict of the Supreme Court regarding a case which demanded for the reinstatement of Nii Tackie Adama Latse II as Ga Mantse against King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II.
In a landmark ruling on June 12, 2025, the Court of Appeal upheld an earlier decision by the High Court ordering the National House of Chiefs to restore Nii Tackie Adama Latse II to the National Register of Chiefs. The court ruled that his removal which occurred in 2021, had no legal justification, as there was no evidence of destoolment, death, or voluntary abdication as key requirements under the Chieftaincy Act. The panel instructed the House of Chiefs to comply with the reinstatement order within 14 days.
However, the ruling reportedly sparked legal action from King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, who challenged the decision at the Supreme Court. He argued that he had not been given notice or an opportunity to be heard in the proceedings that led to the reinstatement order—violating the principles of natural justice. His legal team further argued that the High Court and the Court of Appeal had acted without proper jurisdiction and that the rulings were unreasonable, citing what is known in legal terms as “Wednesbury unreasonableness.”
The Supreme Court delivered its final verdict on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, siding with King Teiko Tsuru II. Ghana’s highest court quashed both the High Court and Appeal Court judgments, ruling that the decisions were procedurally flawed and denied King Teiko the right to a fair hearing. This legal victory marks a significant win for King Teiko Tsuru II.
