The Ghana Hotels Association (GHA) has donated essential supplies and cash to the Tema General Hospital as part of activities marking its 50th anniversary celebration.

The donation, valued at GH¢50,000, was directed to the hospital’s Children’s Block and included food items, toiletries, diapers, disinfectants, detergents, and other cleaning materials.

Additionally, the association presented a cash donation of GH¢15,000 to support needy patients, particularly mothers who are unable to pay their medical bills.

Receiving the items, Olivia Elrom, Head of Nursing at the Tema General Hospital, expressed gratitude to the association, describing the gesture as timely.

“The items came in handy because we have patients who cannot afford their bills or certain basic items. These donations will help mothers take care of their children. Disinfectants and cleaning materials are things we use daily, so this is a very good gesture.

“We also appeal for more support. We need extra beds, and many patients who have been discharged are unable to pay their bills. Whenever we receive such support, we compile their names and use the funds to settle their bills,” she stated.

Juliet Taylor, Second Vice President of the Ghana Hotels Association and Chairperson of the 50th Anniversary Planning Committee, said the donation aligns with the association’s corporate social responsibility goals.

“As part of our anniversary, we decided to give back to society. We presented several items and a cash donation of ₵15,000, bringing the total support to ₵50,000,” she said.

The President of the Ghana Hotels Association, Dr Edward Ackah-Nyamike Jnr, emphasised the importance of supporting children’s healthcare, noting that today’s children will grow up to contribute to national development.

“As a profit-making body, it is our responsibility to support institutions such as the Tema General Hospital, especially the Children’s Block, because these children are the future workforce and leaders of this country,” he remarked.

The association’s 50th-anniversary celebration is being held under the theme: “50 Years of Advocacy, Perseverance, and Impacting Ghana’s Tourism and Hospitality Industry.”
