The President of the Accident Victims Support Foundation Ghana, Rev. Cyril Benedict Crabbe, has challenged the accuracy of recent figures released by the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA).

He contends that the provisional report stating that an average of eight people die daily in road accidents is misleading.

In an interview with Fati Shaibu Ali on Happy 98.9 FM, Rev. Crabbe cited findings from other sources, including his organization’s own research, which estimates daily fatalities at eleven, not eight. “There are higher figures reported elsewhere,” he said.

“Perhaps the NRSA wants to avoid alarming the public.”

The NRSA’s report detailed that between January and June 2025:

– 7,289 crashes occurred

– 12,354 vehicles were involved

– 1,301 pedestrians were knocked down

– 1,504 deaths and 8,300 injuries were recorded

– Fatalities increased by 21.6% compared to the same period last year

The discrepancy in data has raised concerns over transparency and the need for coordination among safety and health agencies to ensure accurate reporting.
