"The minority walked out because of shame" - Dormaa Central MP criticizes minority walk out on budget review day

Member of Parliament for the Dormaa Central constituency, John Kwame Adu Jack has expressed disappointment regarding a walk out staged by the Minority Caucus in parliament shortly before the presentation of the mid-year budget review by the Minister of Finance.

On Thursday, July 24, 2025 the mid-year budget review scheduled to be presented was stalled by a walkout of all minority members, following a directive from Speaker Alban Bagbin to defer discussions on election-related violence – the most recent occurring at the Ablekuma North re-run.

Adu Jack in an interview on Happy Kasiebor’s midday bulletin, indicated that the move of the minority was irrelevant to the agenda of the day, and was largely out of order given their mandate as legislators. “At a very important function as this one, when the whole nation awaits the Finance Minister to bring us updates on the state of Ghana’s economy, then you the minority decide to walk out.”

The MP explained that the move by the minority caucus had an unclear motive and was executed at the wrong time. According to him, their exit was highly on account of the progress made within Ghana’s finance sector just within six months after the inauguration of the NDC administration. “I don’t know why they decided to leave the chamber, but was the time appropriate? I feel they walked out of shame because he did what they could not do for years, Ato Forson did in just six months.”

Mr. Adu Jack applauded the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin for his firm stance on business and wisdom he exhibited to ensure their cooperation for a successful presentation of the mid-year budget review.
