A 22-year-old security guard, Richmond Botwe, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for attempting to rob a Nigerian hairstylist of her iPhone 14 in a violent attack that occurred in the early hours of April 5, 2025, at Nmai Dzorn in the Greater Accra Region.

According to court records, Botwe abandoned his post at Caterpillar Junction in Adjiriganor around 4:00 a.m., hiding a kitchen knife in his trousers before trailing the victim, Ms. Tosin Adesokan, as she made her way home near Ashalley Botwe School Junction.

Upon reaching her apartment entrance, Botwe stabbed her in the back and attempted to snatch her phone, which is valued at approximately GHS15,000.

Thanks to Ms. Adesokan’s resistance and the timely intervention of a co-tenant, the attacker was overpowered and handed over to the police.

At the Adenta Circuit Court, Botwe pleaded guilty to the charges. The presiding judge, while taking into account the convict’s youth and cooperation, handed down a 15-year custodial sentence, emphasizing the seriousness of the offense.

Chief Inspector Eric Abban, who led the prosecution, described the act as premeditated and highlighted the lasting psychological and emotional toll on the victim.
