Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), in partnership with Zesta Environmental Solutions and the traditional leadership of Lante Djan We, successfully organized a comprehensive pre-Homowo cleanup exercise in preparation for this year’s Homowo Festival celebrations.

The initiative, which forms part of GNPC’s Corporate Social Responsibility and sustainability efforts, was aimed at enhancing environmental cleanliness within the Ga Mashie enclave ahead of the traditional Homowo Festival scheduled to commence on August 2nd, 2025.

Cleanup

The clean-up exercise saw participants clearing drains and gutters, sweeping street shoulders, and disposing of accumulated refuse across various locations within the Lante Djan We traditional area. The collaborative effort also involved the removal of structures deemed obstructive to the free flow of water to address conditions that could lead to flooding in the area.

Speaking on behalf of GNPC, Eric Pwadura, Director of Corporate Affairs, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting traditional communities and environmental sustainability. “This cleanup exercise shows GNPC’s dedication to corporate social responsibility and our commitment to supporting the cultural heritage of our communities while promoting environmental stewardship,” Mr. Pwadura stated.

Her Royal Majesty, Mannye Naa Lamiley Ajaaku Drom II, Queen Mother of Lante Djan We, expressed gratitude on behalf of the people for the partnership. “We are deeply appreciative of GNPC and Zesta Environmental Solutions for their support in preparing our community for the sacred Homowo celebrations. This gesture shows respect for our traditions and concern for our environment,” she remarked.

The Homowo Festival, celebrated annually by the Ga people, is a time of thanksgiving and cultural celebration that attracts visitors from across Ghana and beyond. The pre-festival clean-up exercise ensures that the community is well-prepared to host the celebrations in a clean and healthy environment.

GNPC remains committed to supporting community development initiatives and cultural preservation as part of its broader sustainability agenda.
