Some spare parts dealers at Abossey Okai in the Greater Accra Region have expressed concern over the slow pace of business, despite the recent appreciation of the Ghana cedi against major foreign currencies.

Speaking to Happyghana.com during Happy 98.9 FM’s Happy on Wheels show at the Abossey Okai market on Thursday, July 31, the dealers revealed that sales have been stagnant for months, with some days passing without any purchases.

“Things are not going as expected at Abossey Okai. We understand that business is usually slow between June and July, but we are hoping things pick up in August,” they said.

They noted that although the dollar rate has dropped in recent months, it has had little to no impact on their prices.

According to them, their suppliers referred to locally as “Borga” have not reduced their prices, making it difficult for them to adjust retail prices downward.

“We’ve been complaining about the dollar rate. Yes, it has gone down, and you can see provisions shops reducing prices of rice, drinks, and other items. But we spare parts dealers haven’t done the same because our suppliers haven’t reduced their prices. So we’re unable to reduce ours too,” one dealer explained.

The dealers are calling on authorities to take a closer look at the pricing dynamics within the spare parts supply chain to ensure that exchange rate improvements benefit both traders and consumers.
