The Central Regional Minister, Eduamoah Ekow Panyin Okyere, has urged the management of the newly commissioned Elmina Technology Solution Center to scrap Mathematics and Science as entry requirements for young Ghanaians seeking apprenticeship.

According to him, such requirements discourage many youth from enrolling in technical and vocational training. He stressed that technical education should be made accessible to all, regardless of academic background.

The Minister also appealed to the center not to price its equipment beyond the reach of small-scale businesses, warning that affordability is key to empowering local enterprises.

He made these remarks when he joined the Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry to officially commission and hand over the Elmina Technology Solution Center to the GRATIS Foundation.

“We should not let Maths and Science become a barrier. Many of our youth are willing to learn practical skills. Let’s give them that chance.”

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Sampson Ahi, says government is positioning the GRATIS Foundation as Ghana’s hub for technical innovation and rural industrialization.

He noted that the Ministry is working with development partners to equip GRATIS and all 31 Technology Solution Centers to help drive Ghana’s industrialization under the government’s 24-hour economy agenda.

“Our goal is to transform GRATIS into a center of excellence that empowers youth, promotes innovation, and boosts local industry.”

The Elmina Technology Solution Center is one of several projects aimed at equipping young Ghanaians with skills to drive job creation and national development.
