President Donald Trump has issued a bold executive order slapping steep tariffs on imports from 69 countries, including major U.S. trading partners like Canada, Brazil, India, Taiwan, and Switzerland.
The move comes just days before a self-imposed Friday trade deal deadline.
Tariffs range from 10% to 50%, with country-specific rates such as:
* Canada: 35%
* Brazil: 50%
* India: 25%
* Taiwan: 20%
* Switzerland: 39%
Goods from countries not listed will face a default 10% import tax, though Trump hinted this could rise.
Some exceptions apply to shipments arriving within the next week.
“We’ve made a few deals today that are excellent for the country,” Trump said, with more agreements expected to be announced soon.
The administration cited economic imbalances and national security concerns as reasons for the tariffs, saying some nations failed to offer acceptable terms during negotiations.
