Fire Guts Accra Tourist Information Centre: No Casualties Reported

Fire has ravaged the Accra Tourist Information Centre, drawing a swift response from personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

Although the exact time of the blaze remains unconfirmed, a video shared on Facebook by GNFS Public Relations Officer, ADO1 Alex King Nartey in the early hours on Monday, August 4, captured thick plumes of smoke billowing from the facility as panicked visitors and nearby workers scrambled to safety.

Veteran musician and entrepreneur, Reggie Rockstone, who had a commercial space within the premises, confirmed the incident in a media interview monitored by Happyghana.com.

He explained that the fire started from the roof destroyed several properties, but thankfully, no lives were lost.

Reggie commended the GNFS for their prompt intervention despite being visibly exhausted from an earlier firefighting operation in Madina on the same day.

He, however, revealed a worrying trend, noting that when they first contacted the fire service, the officers suspected it was a prank call, an issue GNFS has been grappling with recently.

Reggie therefore appealed to the public to stop making prank calls to emergency services, stressing that such behavior could endanger lives and property.

As of now, no injuries or fatalities have been reported. Authorities are expected to launch a full investigation into the cause of the fire in the coming days.
