The government, under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, has announced the reintroduction of the free cocoa fertiliser programme to provide much-needed support to Ghanaian cocoa farmers beginning from the 2025/2026 crop season.
The announcement was made by Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, in a post on his official Facebook page.
He noted that the initiative is aimed at boosting cocoa yields and improving the income levels of farmers across the country.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, and to the cocoa farmer, I am pleased to announce that President Mahama’s Administration has reintroduced the free cocoa fertiliser programme as an additional support to the Ghanaian cocoa farmer,” Dr. Forson stated.
As part of the intervention, government will provide the following inputs to cocoa farmers free of charge:
1. Cocoa fertilisers (both liquid and granular),
2. Insecticides,
3. Spraying machines,
4. Fungicides
5. Flower inducers.
The Finance Minister urged farmers to use these inputs responsibly and solely for the purpose of enhancing cocoa production and improving their livelihoods.
“Government strongly advises cocoa farmers to apply these inputs solely for the purpose of improving cocoa yield and their income,” he added.
