The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations (MoCDTI) has issued a message of caution regarding the tragic passing of the Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, along with six others, in a military Z-9 helicopter crash.

In the early hours of Thursday, August 7, 2025, the Ministry shared a bulk SMS cautioning Ghanaians against the continued circulation of footage from the crash on social media. “We have become aware of videos and photos circulating on social media of a helicopter crash and the burning bodies of some victims,” the message stated.

The Ministry urged that all videos and photos related to the crash, as well as any copies, be removed from social media platforms with immediate effect.

The warning is based on what the Ministry describes as the need to “show respect to the individuals involved,” and must therefore be strictly adhered to, with deep condolences extended to the families and friends of the victims. “We ask that, out of respect for the individuals involved, the circulation of these videos and photos should stop immediately and all copies deleted. We count on your cooperation. Our prayers are with the families and friends of those impacted,”
