The Government of Ghana has announced a three-day national mourning period, from Thursday, August 7 to Saturday, August 9, 2025, in honour of the eight government officials who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash en route to a national assignment in the Ashanti Region.

In a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications and Spokesperson to the President, the government said the mourning period is meant to provide an opportunity for national reflection and to pay tribute to the departed.

Activities began on Thursday with a public laying of flowers and lighting of candles at the Ceremonial Garden in front of the Presidency. The public, family members, and friends are invited to participate in this act of remembrance.

The statement added that the flower-laying and candle-lighting will continue on Friday, August 8, to allow more citizens to express their condolences and respect.

The mourning period will officially end on Saturday, August 9, with an “Evening of Reflections and Memorials” at the Forecourt of the State House, beginning at 5:00pm

The event is expected to bring together Ghanaians from all walks of life to honour the legacy and contributions of the deceased.

“These three days offer our nation a vital opportunity to collectively mourn and reflect on the profound loss we have experienced,” the statement read.

Citizens were urged to observe the period with dignity and respect.

Details of the State Funeral and any additional arrangements, the statement noted, will be communicated through official government channels.
