President of the Tema Community 25 Lions Club, Lion Dr. Ralph Tettey-Amlalo, has described students reached through the Stop Drug Abuse, Embrace Life outreach programme as vital channels for extending the campaign’s impact beyond school premises.

Speaking to happyghana.com at the Chemu Senior High School edition of the campaign, he explained that the core aim of the initiative is to educate and empower young people nationwide to make informed, healthy life choices.

Dr. Tettey-Amlalo observed that many students’ questions during the sessions were drawn from real-life experiences at home, where exposure to drugs can be more prevalent than in school.

“Some of the questions were based on experiences at home. A few students even mentioned situations where their parents had sent them on errands to purchase certain substances,” he revealed.

According to him, the programme equips students with comprehensive lessons that help them resist drug abuse under any circumstances.

“On average, a school probably has a population of 500 students. Each one of those students goes home, and if you think about it, the lessons they carry with them can easily cascade beyond the school environment,” he said.

The Youth Drug Abuse Sensitization Program, themed “Empowering the Youth to Say No to Drugs,” is a strategic campaign by the Tema Community 25 Lions Club in partnership with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA). From late July into August , it has engaged students from Kpone Senior High School and Chemu Senior High School, with the goal of making a lasting positive impact on communities.
