President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to draw strength from the memories of the eight people who died in the recent military helicopter crash, describing them as a “guiding light” through the nation’s grief.

Speaking at the Evening of Reflections and Memorial at the State House Forecourt, President Mahama urged the country to look beyond despair and find hope in the legacy of those lost.

“I pray that the cherished memories of these, our loved ones, will serve as a guiding light, illuminating a path through the darkness and devastation of this tragedy,” he said.

With visible emotion, the President said he spoke not only as Head of State, but as someone personally mourning the departed.

“I stand before you tonight additionally, and quite humbly, as a person who is also personally grieving the departed. Each of them was either a friend, a cherished colleague, or a valued citizen of this country that I lead.”

President Mahama described the victims including senior government officials and professionals as more than public servants. He said their impact extended far beyond their offices, and their loss is both institutional and deeply personal.

The tragedy occurred on August 6 when a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter crashed in the Adansi-Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, killing all eight on board.
