Deecom Foods: Transforming soybeans into sustainable protein alternatives

Deecom Nutrifoods Ltd, a KIC-supported agribusiness, is driving innovation in Ghana’s food system by providing a direct market for soybean farmers and turning locally grown crops into alternative protein sources for consumers seeking healthy, plant-based options.

Co-Founded by Desmond Anokye Ntim, Deecom Foods adds value to soybeans through the production of nutritious, meat-free protein products tailored for vegetarians, vegans, and individuals seeking to reduce meat consumption for health, ethical, or environmental reasons.

The team joined the KIC AgriTech Challenge Pro program in 2023 and was incubated into its business accelerator program in 2024, having received USD20,000 in seed funding support from KIC in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation.
“Our goal is to create a new food culture — one that is healthy, sustainable, and economically inclusive,” said Desmond Anokye Ntim. “We’re building a value chain that benefits both farmers and consumers.”

By processing soybeans into ready-to-eat and easy-to-cook protein alternatives, Deecom is not only reducing post-harvest losses but also creating market demand and higher income opportunities for soybean farmers, many of whom are based in rural communities.
The initiative perfectly aligns with KIC’s mission to support youth-led agribusinesses that drive innovation, job creation, and market access within Ghana’s agricultural sector.

“Deecom Foods reflects the power of agribusiness to solve real problems, from farmer access to markets to consumer access to healthy, affordable protein,” said Benjamin Gyan-Kesse, Executive Director of the Kosmos Innovation Center. “We are proud to support innovators and entrepreneurs like Desmond and team who are reimagining agriculture as a force for transformation.”

Through a blend of innovation and nutrition, Deecom Nutrifoods Ltd. is connecting the needs of farmers to food-conscious consumers, and a growing plant-based food movement in Ghana and beyond.
