The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has called on the Ministry of Finance to immediately release funds to recruit more than 1,000 trained nurses and midwives who completed their studies between 2021 and 2024 but remain without government postings.
According to the association, the prolonged unemployment is causing graduates to lose essential professional skills.
Speaking at an event to mark International Youth Day on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, GRNMA Vice President Samuel Akologo urged both the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance to fast-track the clearance process.
“I cannot conclude these observations without calling on the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance to give the needed clearance for our 2021, 2022, and 2023 cohorts of qualified nurses and midwives,” he said.
“As they remain at home, their skills are deteriorating. We cannot claim to care about the nation’s health if we are unwilling to invest in its healthcare system,” he added.
