President John Mahama has approved the posthumous promotion of the three Ghana Armed Forces personnel who died in the August 6 helicopter crash.

At the state funeral on Friday, the President hailed them as true patriots who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.

He named Squadron Leader Peter Bufami Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo, whose new ranks were formally conferred by the Ghana Armed Forces.

President Mahama said: “Squadron Leader Peter Bufami Anala is promoted to Wing Commander. Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu is promoted to Flight Lieutenant. Sergeant Ernest Addo is promoted to Flight Sergeant. These are not symbolic. They reflect the rightful place these officers have earned in our republic’s roll of honour.”

He assured the families that their benefits would match the new ranks, and pledged the state’s full support.

The tragic crash happened during a routine mission, sparking nationwide mourning and tributes.

The Ghana Armed Forces say they will complete investigations into the cause and take steps to prevent future tragedies.
