Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has made a passionate appeal to Ghanaians to rally behind the government in its efforts to protect public officials serving the nation.

Speaking in an interview with Happy Kaseɛbɔ at the Black Star square, Agyapong emphasized that the eight individuals who perished in the helicopter crash did so in the line of duty, sacrificing their lives for Ghana.

“They gave their lives for Ghana, and it’s time we, as citizens, stand behind the government to ensure their sacrifice is honored not just with words, but with action,” he said.

Agyapong urged the public to support increased government spending on safety infrastructure, particularly for frontline workers and officials.

He stressed that the tragic loss of high-ranking military personnel and government officials should serve as a wake-up call for the nation.

“We cannot afford to treat safety as a luxury. It must be a priority,” he added.

He further advocated for the acquisition of new aircraft and improved safety systems to ensure that public servants can carry out their duties without undue risk.

According to him, no amount of money can replace the lives lost, and investing in safety is a moral obligation.

“It’s not everything that money can buy. The lives we lost are priceless. Ghanaians should support the government to fix or purchase aircraft that guarantee the safety of our officials”, he urged.

Agyapong also addressed concerns about the potential cost of such investments, reassuring citizens that any spending in this regard is in the best interest of the nation.

Finally, he commended the Mahama-led administration for organizing a dignified and befitting burial for the fallen heroes, recognizing their service and sacrifice.
