A 47-year-old man from Liverpool has been released on bail after being arrested for allegedly racially abusing Bournemouth striker Antoine Semenyo during Friday’s Premier League clash at Anfield.

As part of his bail conditions, he has been banned from attending football matches and must stay at least a mile away from any stadium.

The incident occurred in the first half when Semenyo raised concern with the referee, prompting a brief pause in play. An anti-discrimination message was broadcast in the stadium, and police later entered the referee’s room at half-time to follow up on the complaint.

Semenyo let his football do the talking in the second half, scoring twice to spark a Bournemouth fightback from two goals down, though Liverpool went on to secure a 4-2 victory.

The Ghanaian international said after the match, that he was touched by the outpouring of support, calling it “overwhelming” and a reminder of why he loves the game.
