The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has dismissed reports circulating on social media and other platforms alleging that Brigadier General Michael Opoku has been arrested by security operatives for possessing ammunition.

In a press statement issued and signed by Captain (Ghana Navy) V.A. Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, the Armed Forces clarified that Brigadier General Opoku remains an active member of the service and has not been arrested for any crime.

The statement stressed that all inquiries made to security agencies and national investigative bodies have not corroborated the claims of his arrest.

“The Armed Forces can confirm that Brigadier General Michael Opoku remains an active member of the Ghana Armed Forces and is not under arrest for any crime committed,” the statement read.

While assuring the public that any military personnel found culpable of a crime would be subjected to the same legal procedures as any other citizen, GAF urged Ghanaians to disregard what it described as false and misleading reports.

“The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to state categorically that the story is false and should be ignored. It urges all to refrain from such misinformation and disinformation activities,” the statement emphasized.
