The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has denied reports suggesting it failed to invite President John Dramani Mahama to its 2025 Annual Conference in Wa, Upper West Region.

In a statement issued on Thursday, August 21, the Association described the claims as “false, misleading, and a misconception of facts,” confirming that the President had been formally invited and had accepted to attend as Guest of Honour.

“The President of the Republic was invited as far back as March 2025 during a courtesy call, followed by a formal letter on July 21. The Presidency acknowledged receipt on July 29 and confirmed participation in a letter dated August 1,” the GBA clarified.

It explained that its practice is to circulate initial conference notices before receiving formal responses from invited dignitaries. Once confirmation was secured, an updated notice was issued, announcing President Mahama’s participation.

Responding to concerns about the invitation of the Chair of the Bar Council of England and Wales, the GBA stressed that international participation is standard practice and does not amount to sidelining the President.

“The GBA will not do anything to undermine the authority and dignity of the Office of the President of the Republic of Ghana, as it is a non-partisan Association,” the statement added.

The 2025 Annual Conference is scheduled to take place in Wa, with President Mahama presiding as Guest of Honour.
