The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of candidates who sat for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
In a statement signed by John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs, WAEC indicated that the results have been dispatched to the various schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education. Candidates can also access their results online at the Council’s official website, www.waecgh.org.
The statement noted that a total of 603,328 candidates from 20,395 participating schools registered for this year’s examination, which was conducted at 2,237 centres across the country. Out of this number, 297,250 were males and 306,078 females. The figure also included 72 candidates with visual impairment, 239 with hearing impairment, and 161 with other test accommodation needs. WAEC further noted that 2,526 candidates were absent from the examination.
The Council also revealed that investigations uncovered several cases of examination irregularities. Following a meeting of the 36th Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee, WAEC approved the following actions:
1. Cancellation of subject results of 718 candidates.
2. Cancellation of entire results of 177 candidates.
3. Withholding of subject results of 1,240 candidates.
4. Withholding of entire results of 93 candidates.
The withheld results, according to WAEC, are from candidates in 87 schools and will be subject to further scrutiny. Some subject results of candidates in 119 schools have also been cancelled. Final decisions on withheld results will be announced by September 6, 2025.
Candidates whose results have been withheld or cancelled are advised to visit https://irreg.waec.org for details on the reasons for the actions taken.
WAEC has cautioned stakeholders, especially candidates, to beware of fraudsters who promise to upgrade results for a fee, stressing that all WAEC results are secured and can be authenticated.
The Council expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, security agencies, heads of schools, supervisors, invigilators, examiners, and all stakeholders who supported the successful conduct of the examination and release of results.
