Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, has pledged to provide a maize dryer machine to the Kenyasi Prisons Camp in the Ahafo Region to help reduce post-harvest losses.
Mr. Dumelo, who toured the camp’s farms with the Asutifi North District Chief Executive and other officials under the government’s Feed Ghana initiative, expressed satisfaction with the scale of farming being undertaken. The camp is engaged in maize, cocoa, poultry, and palm plantation farming, with produce used to feed inmates and generate income.
He assured that the Ministry, led by Eric Opoku, will prioritize support for the camp by addressing its major challenge of post-harvest losses through the provision of drying equipment.
The Deputy Minister also urged other institutions in the region to embrace the Feed Ghana programme by taking up farming.
Acting Commander CSP Elvis Ahadzi thanked the Ministry for its support and appealed for swift intervention. He stressed that with the necessary equipment, the camp could expand its production capacity to contribute significantly to national food security.
