Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission, Elikem Kotoko, says he is confident the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will win Tuesday’s Akwatia by-election with not less than 52.3 percent of the total votes.

Speaking ahead of the poll on Tuesday September 2, Mr. Kotoko attributed his projection to the party’s strong campaign and lingering controversies from the last election, which ended up in court.

“I am very confident now, and I can say on authority that the NDC will be winning that election with not less than 52.3% of the total vote cast; mark it down. I am very certain,” he declared.

He also criticised comments allegedly made by former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, suggesting that the late Akwatia MP, Ernest Kumi, died due to pressure from the NDC’s legal challenge.

“To have a family mourning the loss of their loved one and again having a former vice president descending to his lowest to pass those comments, it is unfair… but that is Dr. Bawumia in his loose self again,” Kotoko stated.

The September 2 by-election will see the NDC’s Bernard Boidoo Bediako face off against the NPP’s Solomon Asumadu.

Recent polling by Global Info Analytics, conducted between August 27 and 28 among 2,050 voters, shows Bediako leading with 53% against Asumadu’s 47%, indicating a tight race with the NDC holding a slight edge.
