Ghana is set to soon open its first consulate in Singapore, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced, in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s diplomatic and economic presence in Asia.

The move comes on the back of a successful diplomatic relations between President Mahama and President of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam during his state visit to Singapore last week.

Ablakwa delivered the news to a host of diplomats at this year’s Ambassadors’ Conference Orientation which was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra, earlier today.

Other states which have granted Ghana the green light for a tangible presence in it’s state are Ireland, United States and Portugal. “Ghanaians in the U. S have been crying that New York and Washington cannot continue to represent the fifty-state country and so President Mahama has granted approval to establish a consulate in Massachusets.” he said.

Ghana’s Foreign Ministry is currently furnished with 75 diplomatic missions, 13 High Commissions, 48 Embassies and 14 consulates across the globe. According to the Minister, the latest additions will be opened in the respective countries by 2026.
