GES clarifies BECE aggregate calculation, urges candidates to confirm choices on CSSPS portal

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a clarification to guide students, parents, teachers, and the general public on how Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) aggregates are calculated for school placement under the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).

In a statement issued by GES, a candidate’s aggregate is determined by summing up grades from the four core subjects, English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, and Social Studies, in addition to the best two grades from the remaining subjects.

This means the final placement aggregate is computed as:
English + Mathematics + Science + Social Studies + [two best subjects].

The Service further stressed that while raw scores remain the primary metric used in placement, the overall aggregate also plays a significant role in determining school placement.

GES also reminded candidates and their guardians that the CSSPS portal is live and active, urging them to log in via the official link [https://www.cssps.gov.gh/hub/login] to confirm their school choices.

The statement encouraged candidates to promptly report any concerns or discrepancies using the “Message” option on the portal, assuring them that the 24-hour CSSPS Team is available to provide support and ensure a smooth process.

The portal, GES added, will remain open until 8th September 2025, after which it will be deactivated.
