Assemblies Have No Excuse to Fail in Development Under Mahama – Collins Dauda

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asutifi South in the Ahafo Region, Alhaji Collins Dauda, has stated that district assemblies have no excuse not to deliver on development under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking at a meeting with assembly members, staff of the Asutifi South District Assembly, and opinion leaders at Hwidiem, he explained that unlike in the past, assemblies now receive their full statutory allocations to carry out developmental projects.

According to him, under the previous administration, assemblies struggled because their mandated funds were withheld, but President Mahama has ensured the cancellation of such practices, making resources readily available for development.

“With this decision, assemblies are now fully resourced, so especially here in the Ahafo Region, there is no justification for failing to bring development to the people,” he emphasized.

Alhaji Dauda further cautioned that assemblies that allow external influences from Accra to dictate local development decisions risk having their Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) dismissed.

He also recounted his experience under the Nana Addo-led government, stating that for eight years, he was never invited to any general assembly meeting, a situation he described as strange and unhelpful to the growth of assemblies.

Responding to accusations, particularly from members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), that he was absent from such meetings, the MP stressed that as an experienced politician, he would not attend meetings to which he was not formally invited.
