Be conscious of your data disclosure - Cyber Security consultant cautions

Cyber Security, Data and Legal Consultant, Desmond Israel Esq, has revealed that the casual disclosure of data to unknown recipients heavily contributes to the alarming rates of data breaches in Ghana.

The cyber security expert speaking to Happy FM’s Sefah-Danquah on the Happy Morning Show, explained that data breaches are not solely identified in hacking or loss of data but in firms and areas of work as well. He further noted that the issue stems from weak enforcements by authorities – consequently leading to weak compliance in government and corporate firms. “There’s justification for why the numbers are that huge and I think we are at a point we need to change things drastically.”

The legal consultant stated that in wake of policies and laws that have emerged to uphold data privacy, every individual is responsible for the regulation of their data and wherever it is forwarded to. The careless release of data, he said could lead to loss of property, loss of earnings and loss of reputation. “In as much as there will be regulations, there will be enforcements, there will be awareness and all that, you are the first point of call to protect your data,”

In cases where data has been given to an institution of work, he noted that they are mandated to protect the data of the employee at all times with the necessary structures to ensure airtight transference of data for strictly official purposes.
