The principal streets of Techiman, particularly those leading to the central market, continue to face heavy traffic caused by the growing number of commercial tricycles (Pragyia) and motorbikes (Okada). The situation has become a major concern for both residents and traders who visit the municipality for business.
According to members of the Pragyia Riders Association, the congestion stems largely from the lack of ring roads around the market area, which forces all vehicles to use the same narrow routes. They added that intense competition among riders, who are under pressure to meet daily sales targets, also contributes to the disorder on the roads.
Speaking to journalists, the association’s leadership outlined a number of suggestions to help ease the situation. Mr. Alhassan Hardi, who is regarded as the “father” of the Pragyia Riders Association, emphasized the need for authorities to construct additional access roads and introduce traffic management measures to restore order.
Residents and traders alike are hopeful that collaborative solutions between the riders and city authorities will soon bring relief to Techiman’s bustling commercial hub.
