Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to rein in state security agencies over what he described as growing excesses against members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking during an engagement with UK Minister for International Development, Baroness Jennifer Chapman, alongside UK parliamentarians and civil society groups, Afenyo-Markin pointed to the arrest of NPP Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe (Abronye), and the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo as politically motivated actions.
He cautioned that such developments amount to attacks on the opposition and could undermine Ghana’s democratic reputation on the global stage.
“These acts are unacceptable. If we are to safeguard our democracy, the government must put an end to these excesses,” he stressed.
