The 2025/26 Ghana Premier League kicked off with drama, resilience, and bold statements of intent across the country. Defending champions Bibiani Gold Stars were made to sweat for their opening win, Asante Kotoko ended a long-standing hoodoo, Karela United and Nations FC made strong starts, while Hearts of Oak were left frustrated under the Accra floodlights.

Hearts of Oak 0–0 Hohoe United

The season began on Friday night at the Accra Sports Stadium, where Hearts of Oak were held to a goalless draw by newcomers Hohoe United.
The Phobians dominated possession but couldn’t find a breakthrough, as the spirited debutants dug deep despite finishing the game with ten men to earn a valuable point on their Premier League debut.

Berekum Chelsea 0–1 Asante Kotoko

Saturday’s early headline fixture saw Kotoko finally break their 15-year winless run in Berekum. Striker Albert Amoah struck the only goal to hand the Porcupine Warriors a hard-fought 1–0 victory, signalling their intent to mount a serious title challenge.

Gold Stars 2–1 Bechem United.

Later in Bibiani, champions Gold Stars survived a scare to beat Bechem United 2–1 at Dun’s Park.
Darlvin Yeboah gave Bechem the lead, but Kumi Attah took matters into his own hands with a decisive brace that ensured the champions opened their defence with three points.

Basake Holy Stars 0–0 Eleven Wonders

In Nsenkyire, Basake Holy Stars and returning Eleven Wonders cancelled each other out in a cagey stalemate, both sides struggling to find rhythm in their first outing of the season.

Vision FC 0–0 Samartex 1996

Vision FC’s Premier League debut ended in another goalless draw, this time against Samartex in Tema. Vision showed heart after going down to ten men in the second half, holding firm to frustrate the Timber Giants.

Heart of Lions 1–0 Dreams FC

In Kpando, Lions roared into the new season with a narrow 1–0 victory over Dreams FC. Ebenezer Abban’s first-half strike proved enough, while skipper Lawrence Osei marshalled his side to a solid defensive display.

Young Apostles 0–2 Medeama

Former champions Medeama reminded everyone of their pedigree with a commanding 2–0 win away to debutants Young Apostles. Emmanuel Owusu and Paul Yeboah were on target, while Felix Kyei impressed between the sticks.

Karela United 1–0 Aduana Stars

Karela United extended their dominance over Aduana at the Aliu Mahama Stadium, with Malik Abubakar’s early goal sealing victory. Remarkably, Aduana are still without an away win against Karela in league history.

Nations FC 2–1 Swedru All Blacks

The weekend’s most dramatic moment came in Kumasi, where Nations FC completed a stirring comeback against newly promoted Swedru All Blacks.
Kweku Baffoe’s early strike silenced the home crowd, but Samuel Tetteh equalised after the break before Emmanuel Annor curled in a stoppage-time winner to snatch all three points.
