Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a stark warning to the nation’s youth, linking rising internet fraud and money laundering to increased visa restrictions for Nigerians abroad.
The agency condemned the popular “yahoo-yahoo” scams, calling them a destructive trap that ruins lives and futures.
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede emphasized that digital footprints never disappear, and those involved risk losing their freedom, reputation, and long-term prospects.
He urged young Nigerians to reject fraud and instead channel their talents into innovation, entrepreneurship, and productive ventures.
The EFCC noted that cybercrime costs Nigeria billions of naira annually, weakens the economy, and damages the country’s global image.
The agency is intensifying public awareness campaigns to steer youths away from crime and toward meaningful opportunities.
