The Odikro of Gomoa Takwa, Nana Atta Kwakwa Egyir Oposu VII, has announced plans to establish a skills training centre aimed at empowering the youth and tackling the rising cases of teenage pregnancy and unemployment in the community.

Speaking to Happy Kasiebo reporter, Atta Buabeng, the chief expressed deep concern over the increasing number of teenage girls, some as young as 15 and 16, becoming pregnant due to financial hardship and lack of opportunities. He revealed that many of these young girls struggle to afford basic necessities like sanitary pads, and are often exploited by men who offer help only in exchange for sexual favors.

Nana Atta Kwakwa emphasized that the root cause of this crisis is not promiscuity, but economic vulnerability. He stated, “It’s not that our girls enjoy sex, they are simply desperate for support, and jobs are scarce.”

To address this, the chief has secured land for the proposed training centre and is calling on the Member of Parliament for Gomoa West, Hon. Richard Gyan Mansah, and the District Chief Executive to support the initiative. He believes that equipping the youth with vocational skills will reduce dependency, restore dignity, and significantly lower the rate of teenage pregnancies.

In addition, the chief appealed to the Minister of Health to upgrade the community’s CHPS compound into a full-fledged health centre, citing the area’s growing population. He disclosed he has already constructed accommodation for medical personnel and is urging the government to post doctors to the community once the health centre is established.

“This community is expanding rapidly,” he said. “We need proper healthcare facilities to meet the needs of our people.”
