The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is staging a demonstration in Accra today, Tuesday, September 23, 2025, dubbed the “Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna”, to register its discontent over what it describes as the “misapplication of justice” by the John Mahama-led administration.
According to the party, the government is using state institutions to target former NPP appointees and supporters through politically motivated prosecutions.
The demonstration will begin at Obra Spot in Accra, from where protesters will march to the Police Headquarters to present a petition to the Inspector General of Police and National Security. The march will then proceed to the Jubilee House, where a final petition is expected to be delivered to the Office of the President.
This protest comes in the wake of recent arrests involving leading figures of the party. Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, was detained by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), while Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, was picked up by the police.
The NPP claims that several other members and sympathisers have also been arrested under what it insists are politically motivated investigations.
Party leaders say today’s demonstration is intended to draw attention to what they describe as the government’s “selective application of justice” and to demand equal treatment before the law for opposition figures.
