The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has urged parents whose wards did not secure their preferred Senior High School (SHS) placement to consider hiring extra teachers to support their education.
Her remarks follow concerns raised by parents and students who completed the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) but have not yet been placed in any SHS.
They were directed to the GNAT Hall in Accra, where the Ghana Education Service (GES) is working to resolve their issues.
Mrs. Ocloo stressed that all Senior High Schools are capable of equipping students with the skills they need, and not gaining admission into a preferred school should not be seen as the end of the road.
“The fact that your ward wants a preferred school and he doesn’t get does not mean you should be heartbroken, all schools are schools,” she said
She advised parents to provide additional academic support by employing extra teachers if necessary while assuring them that her priority is to ensure every student is placed.
“The fact is that when you don’t get the preferred choice for your ward, all that you do is to get an extra teacher for that ward but my most priority is to make sure that every child here gets a placement,” she added.
