Deputy National Coordinator for the Free SHS Secretariat, Dr. Belinda Glover, has cautioned parents against overwhelming placement resolution centres with requests to change their children’s assigned schools.
Speaking during a media engagement, Dr. Glover revealed that 95% of cases at the centres involve parents seeking transfers from one category of school to another, despite their wards already being placed.
“It’s not about not getting a school. it’s about changing the school. But we all cannot go to the Achimotas and Wesley Girls.”
She explained that the Computerized School Placement System (CSSPS) uses an algorithm to match students to schools based on merit.
“The major issue is those who are coming here with grades that cannot take them to the school they want. The algorithm places you where your grade qualifies you.”
Dr. Glover warned that such pressure could lead to overcrowding and logistical challenges.
“When that happens, you end up seeing students sleeping on the floor, and the backlash will come to government,” she said.
She urged parents to accept the placements and allow the centres to focus on genuine concerns.
“Please go to the schools you’ve been assigned to, so we can ease the pressure here,” she appealed.
